Journal Entry – Scotland Day 4

I am really trying to wear myself out, since I walked/hiked 7.22 miles or 16,200 steps today. I got back around 2:00 and was in the hot tub for a half an hour just after 4:00. The hot tub does help with my sore muscles, but they could use a massage. Massages here cost about the same as they do in the states; so, maybe I will have to try one nest week.

The weather here is unbearable. With a forecast of rain until 10:00, do not believe it, since it will rain off and on until 10:30 pm. Most of the rains are light, but there will be hard rains too, but no storms. I walked down town for lunch and then I went hiking for about 2.5 miles, except I chose the time when it was raining. My new parka worked really well, except I was working so hard that I completely sweated through my clothes on the inside. My hair was totally saturated with sweat, but it was dry from the rain, so it works really well. My parka and clothes are still drying.

One has to remember that the trials around here are not flat. So, It seems like I put in a great amount of work hiking. Some of the trials are combined with bike traffic, but there are no bikes on the trails in this rain today. Last year I put on weight, but my physical exam showed that I needed to lose weight to stay healthy. Since then, despite that fact that I have been exercising daily and watching the amount and foods that I eat, I have had a hard time loosing any weight, but I would bet that walking/hiking 6 miles everyday might cause me to lose weight. Since I seem to be out of shape, although I exercise daily, my heart and lungs are getting a work out. Furthermore. I just do not like being this far out of shape.

As for the last two days, I have had lunch in town. Regarding both places, they have had simple sandwiches, like we would make at home. They are sandwich bread with meat, and, like today, it had grated cheese on it. That is all. And, they make a business with this type of lunches, with a low cost per sandwich, without many people in the restaurant.

Over lunch, I worked on the application for the Stagecoach busing service. So, for tomorrow, I am planning to take the bus west to Breamar that is in the Cairngorms National Park. Since there are plenty of trails in that area, I am sure that I will get another 6 miles in for the day. It is not that I am focused on losing weight, but I love the Highlands. I guess that I just have to keep moving.

Until tomorrow,

Roger
