Journal Entry – Elvis Presley

It was a nice sunny day with the wind blowing at 49 degrees. Since it seemed like it was goin got warm up this morning, I left the trailer without a heavy enough jacket on, and I got cold a few times.

Elvis Presley has always been interesting topic, and today brought back a few to these memories and life in the 60s and 70s. I can still remember the Ed Sullivan show where they would not show him below his belt, as if his was doing sometime ungodly. That was a stretch of the imagination. Then he became so popular with especially the young and middle aged. He came into so much money, but had to experience on how to handle the wealth, and it took a drain on his personal life, like his divorce from Pricilla. His personal life was a big struggle, and, as one looks at his life, he was not always treated correctly, either. Hal Wallis had him making the same type of musical movies over and over again, without any personal growth be getting more challenging parts to act. Some of the scenes seemed to be down grading his talents.

By walking around Graceland and the museums, it becomes clear that her lived a full life in his forty some years of life. His music was a revolution for the music industries, and his popularity become overwhelming. With performances through the United States and Hawaii. With his popularity, I am sure that he could have played in Great Britain and Australia. This is not to overlook his performances in Los Vagus. Then there is his overwhelming movie career. When looking at each one separately, each one has been a full career for others musician and move star, but he had both. It is sad that his life and Lesa Maira’s life was taken so soon. If he would have lived, it is hard to tell what direction his life would have taken with his energy and backing. He got to the point that he did not like going to the recoding studio and it was pointed out that he was starting to focus on country songs. May that gives us an idea of his future.

With today’s trip, his energy was front and center; it was like he had endless energy both at home and on stage. Then all to once, the energy was gone. Maybe I am just getting older, but walking around the meditation garden that he had built is there graves, including Lesa Maria. It is so hard to seen look at the graves and seen the energy that these people had at one time in our world.

As for me, I felt the negative images that older population had when Elvis can on the scene, so I stayed away for years. Sure I did watch his moves on TV. But, around 1974, Elvis came out with one of his last albums, Moody Blue and I was hook on his music. I loved Moody Blue and Way on Down. (it should be noted that Richard Serban sang backup on this album. But, shortly after, he was offered as one of the Oak Ridges Boys. Needless to say, Richard left Elvis and became an Oak Ridge Boy and he is still with them to day as his is now around eighty years old. That was a great switch for him.). When I was in a vehicle without anyone else, I would sing Elvis’s songs to the top of my voice including all of the inflections. Therefore, as I was walking around Graceland today, I was able to match Elvis’s singing, and it was a great feeling. All I need was a few introductory notes and I was song the whole song, since I know the word so well. One thing for sure, since I have been single my whole life, I have had plenty of time to practice singing his songs.

I also stopped over to the Sun Studio and got a fill of history. As with everything that I saw today, I feel that I have been so informed on Elvis Presley that I did not learn much, but it was interesting to see everything in person instead of seeing the pictures, but the pictures were accurate. So, as for me, it was an enjoyable day, except I needed a warmer coat.
