Journal Entry – Stranded in Texas

On December 19, I can down here to Levelland, Texas, for Christmas, since my nephew, and his family, live down here. His wife is expecting their four girl. Christmas and New Years was great. The weather was not bad. Last week, The week of January 11 I got a bad respiratory infection, so I have been unable to travel until now. And now, the weather has turned with a major winter storm. If I felt like leaving before now, I may have stayed out of the snow storm.

This storm is wide. To find moderate temperatures, they are found down by the coast of the Gulf of America. Wednesday would have been my first opportunity to leave, but it is a long ways to the Gulf, and I would still have to find a park to park my trailer in, but it can be difficult to find parks at a moment’s notice. So, I decided to stay in Levelland, since I am in a private trailer park, and I can leave the trailer there for a few days. I decided to play it save.

Yesterday, with the storm coming in, I traveled to a hotel in Lubbock. Freezing rain was coming in when I got to the hotel, but the rain did not amount to much, but at least I was not in the trailer with the temperatures getting down to eight degrees last night. (I really do not want to be in the trailer when it drops below 20 degrees, since it can be dangerous if the furnace goes out, and I have been having problems with the furnace.)

The high today is 13 degrees. Snow as going to come in at 3:00, but it was more like ice pellets. They are stating that we should receive between 3 to 8 inches of snow, but I guess that we will have to wait and see. As far as is concerned, I really do not know what to expect. Last year in Louisiana, they just shut the city down, without any restaurants open, except for the Waffle House. From the hotel, I can see that they have closed 3 out of 4 restaurants down. As for this year, I do have food in the refrigerator that I can heat up in the micro wave.

As far as what to expect, it is going down to 7 degree and tomorrow night it is going down to 1 degree. It will be Wednesday night before the temperatures only get down to 22 degrees. I do not know how to make plans at this time, but this is one cold snap that I never expected here in west Texas.
