I am in Tampa Florida attending the National American Legion Conference, and I have kind of got off to a slow start. The plane out of Milwaukee was about an hour late. If I would have taken my original flight out of Atlanta, I would have only had 17-minute lay over. Delta Airlines put me on the next plane to Tampa. They informed me by sending me a text message. I guess that this beats the old days of standing in line to talk to a service agent. Both planes seemed to be totally full. The first plane was an Airbus, and I got a seat that was in a row without any windows. I really did not like this plane much. The second plane was a Boing 757, and it was a really nice plane. It is hard to understand why Boeing discontinued this model of plane. The booked me in first class in the first row. I did have more room for my arms, but there is a wall in front of the seats, and I was limited on how far I could stretch my legs. For this trip, I get all comfort seats that give me more room for my legs and it has been worth the extra cost, since other wise my legs at up next to the seat in front of me. I often tell the person setting in front of me not to recline their seat without telling. So the comfort seats are worth the extra cost but not the cost of first class.
It was after 11:00 when I got to the hotel last night (10:00 our time). Regarding the stress from flying, I did not get to sleep until after midnight, so I was dragging all day long. It was also raining here all day long. Every time that I went to the conference center, I got drench. I mean that I was in the restroom using paper toweling to dry my heir.
By the time I got around this morning, it was too late to attend any of the meetings. So, at 1:00, I attended the disaster relief meeting. The talked about the Legion’s involvement in flooding in West Virginia, wildfires in California, and flooding in Texas. The retired Sergeant-Major in California was given the takes to rebuild the area. As a civil engineer, I wish that I could have talked to him. Maybe sometime during the convention.
At 4:00 this afternoon, I watched a movie on Truths & Myths about the Vietnam War. My interpretation about the war were confirmed, although they had the facts to back up my feeling. We were actually fighting the Soviet Union. As I interpreted the war through the years, they stated that the war could have been won, but the politics got in the way. The war was lost by the politicians, the media, and protestors. The slaughter to the south Vietcong after our military pulled out was almost as bad as HItler’s holocaust. If you would like to see this film, it is at http://www.avvba.org. I am sure that you will feel differently about this sad war.
Tomorrow, it is off for more meetings. As for now, it is time to rest and try to get more sleep to night.
