Journal Entry

I traveled south to stay in my trailer this winter, and that worked until this week. They started stating that a major snow storm was going to come in here at New Iberia, Louisiana, but I did not realize that I would be back in Wisconsin, again. It must have snowed about six inches of snow here today, and, now, the temperature is dropping to seven degrees. With the locals not being around this much snow and such lower temperatures, it has been an interesting day.

With these low temperatures coming in, I decided to stay in a hotel for a few days. As with all trailers, they are not really meant to live in at these low temperatures. If the furnace goes out with these low temperatures, it would not be good. I tried to buy an electric space heater as a back up yesterday, but they were all out. Well, it will be warm enough in a few days, so that I can move back to the trailer.

At 10:00 today, I decided to check out my trailer. When I went to Walmart, there were closed, along with all of the businesses, including convenient store and fast food restaurants. I have never seen this before, so I proceeded to my trailer some twenty miles away.

The streets and highways were show covered, since there is no such thing as a snow plow. I do have almost 1,000 pounds of firewood in the back of my truck. There was no vehicles on the streets or highways, so I was mainly driving in snow tracks that were mainly drifted shut or I was cutting my own tracks. Although I was not having any problems, I would call that I was driving in advance snow conditions, even in Iowa and Wisconsin, so I would not recommend driving on these highways without experience and four wheel drive. They were passable.

With this weather, I was concern with my trailer, before I left on Sunday, I had partially winterized my trailer, but I had a few concerns. I had the furnace at 45 degrees, and I found today that very little propane was used, and that was good. I finished winterizing the trailer, expect for the water heater, but I left the water heater on, so that should work. There is a heater for the water tanks, but I drained the fresh water tank today. So, I do not feel that I am going to run out of propane with the furnace temperature set at 45 degrees. I am now feeling fine that my trailer will survive this cold snap.

I am not sure on what to expect tomorrow, with the stores, street, and highways shut down today. With it being seven degrees in the morning, will any of the stores be open. Without snow plowing, to packed snow will be nothing but ice tomorrow. It is to warm up to 37 degrees tomorrow, so there will be some melting.

I found that Waffle House was open this evening, so I did get a warm meal. The hotel does have breakfast, so that meal is not a problem. I made a three ham sandwiches while I was in the trailer today. Other than that, I am reading, and, as you can see, I am writing. I will have to see how things are tomorrow to see if I am going to check on the trailer.
