Journal Entry

I am on the west side of Ontonagon, Michigan in the upper peninsula east of Porcupine Mountain State Park, since my birthday is tomorrow. I enjoy coming up here and enjoy the colorful trees this time of the year. But, as for this year, there is not much color. Since the tree leaves turn color when the tree sap stops flowing to the leaves. the warm weather seems to be keeping the leaves green and on the trees. So it is hard to tell when the leaves will fall off of the tress, but, with the last two days being windy, the leaves are not coming off. The weather was up to 72 degrees today. Tomorrow the weather is warm up to 61 degrees, but the nights are down 50 degrees.

As I was coming into the area late yesterday afternoon, it is strange to be on the west end of the Eastern Time Zone, with night fall being an hour later. It is like the whole evening is dark as it is on the east end of the Central Time Zone. I cannot help but wonder if this has an impact on the human psyche making people feel despair with the dark evenings. This would make for a good research study. And the sad part of the dark evenings are man made, with time and time zones. Has this man made issues on our daily lives making some people feel despair? It seems like there should be someway to make everyone feel comfortable in their time zone.

With the sun coming up an hour later, I slept in an hour longer. And, since it was overcast, I stayed in the trailer just working on things that needed to be done. This afternoon I went to Porcupine State Park for some hiking. Without the color on the trees and partly cloud afternoon, I just took in a few short hikes to a few water rapids that were basically dry. So it turned out to be a fun afternoon. But, since I did so much beach walking last month on the shores of Lake Michigan, my muscles were getting to the point of loosening up enough that I could hike without many problems, but my hiking this afternoon has tighten they up again, and tomorrow I want to really get in into hiking, so I will have to see what happens tomorrow. Just another day of fun.
