Deflection

A narcissist does not live in the real world, since, by definition, they live in their world. So, if they are to live in their world, they have to be an expert in all terms in the real world, and this is impossible, since no one can be “Jack of all trades.” In order for them to make everyone believe that they are Jack of all trades, they have to lie.

With a narcissist being pagan god of their own world, they have to be an expert in every topic. If they find them self is a situation that they know nothing about the topic, they cannot not let others know their lack of knowledge. So they will use something like word salad as a defense so that others will not know that they have no knowledge of the topic. First, they will start talking uncontrollably so that others will not be allowed a chance for them to say a word. If the experts cannot say a word, then they cannot prove that the narcissist knows nothing about the topic. Then they will talk around the topic, since they do not want others to know that they have no knowledge. If they get backed into a corner by a direct question, they will lie to prove that they are knowledgeable about the subject. Obviously, as the experts will see through the lie, the narcissist looses their credibility, although the narcissist will continue to as if they still know the topic.

To fulfill the insecurities of a narcissist, they have to win at all costs. They cannot not loose an agreement. If they have stated something that is incorrect, they cannot state the correction and move on with life; therefore, to resolve an issue, they will lie to keep their number one status. This behavior leaves everyone else perplexed, especially those that see through their lie. Why are they lying? What are they trying to prove? It is interesting that they get by with their lies, although most of the time they are correct, but, by using their defense called word salad, they talk to the point that others get bored, and will probably move on to other topics.

The old saying is that once a person tells one lie that they have to keep lying. This may not be true for a narcissist, since they will use word salad to talk around the topic. Or, they will divert to an other topic. Shove the off to something that someone else either stated or did. They will never acknowledge that they lied, since then they have to admit that they are variable, and this cannot happen with their high level of insecurity.

What happens when a narcissist makes a an incorrect statement? I some cases it is a lie. They cannot correct their statement, with their high level of insecurity, and they cannot use word salad to talk around this issue. Since they see others as subordinates, they will force them to take other measures to see their points. Let’s assume that a narcissist makes the comments that multi purpose trails were installed too close to a highway, but then reviewing the standards for the distance was correct, the narcissist finds out that they are wrong; therefore, to remedy the situation, he has subordinate visit with the locals on the topic. The subordinate is perplexed, but has to visit with the locals for a discussion to discuss nothing. Therefore, since the narcissist cannot issue a correction, the narcissist wins, since they sent to subordinate out to discuss nothing. To everyone around this issue, it all seems like a waste of time.

Lying becomes the narcissist. With their deep insecurities, it forces them to win at all costs, and this means lying. Although it becomes unfortunate, the people around a narcissist has to learn that life becomes difficult with a despicable personality disorder. If it is possible, the best answer to being around a narcissist is to leave.
