All Men are Created Equal – Essay III

As for this essay, it will look at the word “equal.”  And, the signers of the Declaration of Independence were not naive, since they did understand the people do come from different backgrounds, races, and/or health issues.  Therefore, the signers were referring to the offspring at the time of birth, and  that they would have an equal opportunity to succeed.  In today’s environment, since offspring from every US citizen has the opportunity to succeed, then word equal is bent, but not yielded.

If a child is born into the wealthy family with old money, or the money has been in the family for years, they are expected to go to college and increase the value of the money.  Although the term here is “expected,” there are offspring that does spend the funds and end up living in poverty.  But, it we look at the wealthy with new money, most of the time this money is depleted by the offspring, since they did not earn the money and the parents did not teach them the value of money.  However, on the other hand, there is a small percentage of these offspring that will opt to grew the funds.

The middle class is definitely a mix bag.  If the parents have earned their money of the years, they will expect that their offspring to grow the funds.  At a young age, they will keep giving their children more responsibility showing them the value of money.  Most of the time this works, but there are offspring that can only see spending the money and the parents will often put the money a foundation like the Mayo Clinic.

There are parents that work had for their money and never get ahead in life, and they state that they will put children through college so that they will not have to work so hard in live.  This may work some for the offspring, but there are those that state that their parents will not dictate their future.  There are offspring that stated that they will not listen to their parents and put themselves through college.

But, for most of the middle class, the offspring will stay in the middle class.  Some will follow their parent’s type of work, but other will pick either a career path that is easy for start in or may take a career path that takes some education.

It can be difficult for the offspring from the poor.  If the parent were recently put on welfare or unemployment, the parents will struggle to make ends meet as they thy to find a way out of their predicament and the offspring will feel the struggle.  In this situation, it is hard to determine how the children will succeed.  But, if the parents are not happy with their situation, more than likely the offspring will work hard to improve their future.  Then there are offspring being born into families that have been on welfare that whole life and will never get off of welfare.  These offspring will more than likely stay in welfare their whole lives.  However, there are a small percentage of this class that will work hard to get out of poverty. Although it can be very difficult.

They say the the United States is the melting pot of the world.  As for most people that first come the this country, they work hard to succeed, but it is difficult to predict on how their offspring will succeed.  But there are those that are just coming in this country of fill a political obligation and this topic need no more discussion. There are offspring born into families and single mothers that feel that they are the victims for generations.  With the parents getting power for society, the offspring will also play the victim card.  However, there are minority offspring that do succeeded, since the environment is not insurmountable.  And, for many that have left the status of being the victim, they usually support those playing the victim to move on with their lives, since it really is no fun playing the victim.  But we hear and see minorities succeeding in life.

Although what is written above is about family background that offspring are born into, there is also the issue of offspring being born into parents with, or having, physical and mental health issues.  In either situation, the offspring has a difficult start in live.  But, for many of the offspring, this type of situation only makes them work harder to succeed in life.  However, for others, the issues are too difficult to over come.

From a political aspect, the issue of background can become interesting.  Often, when former US President Ronald Reagan woke up in the morning, he would find his dad sleeping in the yard drunk.   Although he grew up practically in poverty, he became a successful person.  On the other hand, former Speaker of the House Tip O’Neal was raised in the middle class, but he represented the poor.  It would seem like Ronald Reagan would have had a better understand of poverty.  Also, Ronald Reagan stated that they maybe politicians during the day, but that they were common people at night.  This sounds like George Washington putting Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton in the boat on the Potomac River, since it came down with the fact that they were either going to get along or they were going in the water.  Or, in other words, George Washington and Ronald Reagan was referring to the preamble of the US Constitution, “we the people,” and not individualism.

But, back to the main point of this essay, the offspring can succeed in this country no matter their background, race, or mental or physical health.  So, from this stand point, the statement that “All Men are Created Equal” is deflected, since there are people that believe that they cannot succeed in environment, and there are those that will never succeed in any environment.  But, as the signers where aware of, anyone that want to succeed can in this country.
