Here on the west side of Lake Superior it has been up to 84 degrees. With this type of temperature, I might as well stay at home, but it is going to get down to 65 degrees, and the temperature would probably not get that low at night.
I am back on the grid, but I have a poor signal. So, I will go ahead and type for awhile. After leaving Rainbow Provincial Park, there was some tough grades to climb to the west, like around Rossport. This was the worst grades that I got in during the whole trip. It makes my wonder of the locations that I will visit on my next trip up here. I guess that I will have to make some notes on what I liked.
The Sleeping Giant Provincial Park was the biggest park that I visited. The campground is around an inter lake, Marie Louise Lake. There was not the miles of Lake Superior beaches to walk. The campground was large, with almost 300 camping sites. The view were great of Lake Superior, with high granite rocks. Since granite rock is an ingenious rock, it was a molten rock that left high vertical walls next to the lake. There are no sandy beaches. The sandy beaches on the south east side of the lake are from the types of rock and the prevailing winds, blowing the lake water on these beaches pulverizing the rocks into sand.
Years ago, I hiked out to the sleeping giant rock formation. It is about a seven hour hike there and back. The first part is easy, but the last part, going up the giant, is difficult, as they state in the trial description. From the giant formation, Isle Royale can be seen. But, when I got up yesterday, it was overcast. So, I decided not to hike out to the Sleeping Giant, since i would not see Isle Royale. In the morning, I hiked out to the Sea Lion. It is an ingenious rock that filled a crevice in the sedimentary rock. As the sedimentary rock has eroded away, this has left this ingenious rock and the ingenious rock has eroded away to look like a sea Lion. I know a long description, but I am a civil engineer with a strong geology background. The the afternoon, I traveled to the west side of peninsula and took in a couple of scenic views.
It was a nice morning here, with the sun shining, and it might have been a good day to go out to the Sleeping Giant, but then it might have been a little hot to make that type of hike. So, this morning I went and hiked the Joe Creek Trail on the east side of the peninsula to Lake Superior and then I hike on the Bay’s End trail on the west side of the peninsula to a look out and it was a good view. After lunch I traveled to Chippewa city owned campground. The road getting to this campground was so filled with pot holes I could not believe that I got here without a problem to my rig. So, I decide not to leave here until morning and only travel that road one more time. Besides, it was 84 degrees and probably too hot to be outside anyway. At least I am not getting the headaches like I did twenty years ago in this heat.
I do have an inland pond in front of my trailer, tonight. The campground is sparsely covered with trees, so it is kind of wide open, as compared to being in the woods like I have been the past nights. I guess that I will take a walk, since it is starting to cool down.
