Journal Entry – Lake Superior Circle

Another nice day up here around the Lake with the high temperature of 65 degrees. I could get use to this weather.

It was a slow morning for me, so I thought that I would work on trying to figure out why my hotspot on my computer was not working. So, I started texting with Apple, and for over two hours we tried everything that they could think of to try. I was on there so long that they even brought in a second advisor. They finally cut me off and transferred the information to an upper level advisor. I dreaded contacting them again, since it always take so much time. At 8:00, I gave up and contacted them again. Final, I got to talk to an advanced advisor and within five minutes she asked me if I was using a different cellular provided and I had noticed the name Bell in the upper left and corner of my I Phone. She went on to state that different provides charge for the use of hotspots on a cellular phone. The problem solved in five minutes. Hopefully, once i get back on Verizon network, the hotspot will work properly. As for now, I have to use my I Pad, and it is not as easy to work with as my Mac. The world and it’s problems. I guess that when you are retired, you have time to waste, but I would have rather just been taking it easy.

This afternoon, I when for a hike, and I found a scenic overlook of the Lake. But, during my hike, I noticed that there was some excavation, like the installation of an underground utility. Once the soil was opened, it was clear that the soil holds water. The soil is putty much impermeable. So, regarding my discussion on pavement settlement around the Lake, it becomes clear that there are these pockets of water being trapped in the soil. This would cause the local settlement in the pavement. But, once again, there is no evidence that these water pockets are being drained. However, when looking at the area, the is a double set of railroad tracks and local settlement of the grade would cause the trains derail. So, what is the railroad companies doing that the highway departments are not doing? There defiantly is more engineering going into the railroad tracks.

Tomorrow, i am moving again. This time to Sleeping Giant Provençal Park. Since the campground is off of the main highway and it has lots of hiking trails, I feel that I am going to enjoy this campground. With so many of the parks, like this one, next to the highway, it takes all of the enjoyment out of camping in the woods, but I am next to the Lake.

During sun set, I was down on the beach, and I got a few photos of the sunset. They state that the best time to take scenic photos is during sunrise or sunset. But, as for sunset here, it is 9:30 and I am not use to sunset so late in the day.
