Journal Entry

It was up to 44 degrees today and most of the snow is gone. No more snowshoeing. I cannot wait until I have moved up North and there are more snow covered days for more winter sports. As for today, I walked on the boring sidewalks instead of the muddy trails.

I have not written for a wail, since I have been sick for the past three weeks. A sinus infection can surely knock it out of a person, but my brain now feels like it will work on complicated items, like writing, again.

It has been two weeks since mom has been diagnosed with COVID and it has had a negative affect on her. As the doctor stated the night she was diagnosed that she will need physical therapy, her walking at times is much slower. She has taking a hit cognitively. Today, seem to be really bad, but I hope that it is day. She is more confused and willing to sit in one spot for a time. But she does get up on her own in the afternoon. Without going into too much detail, I hope that she come out of some of this COVID fog. She has a doctor’s appointment on Tuesday and hopefully we will learn more about her condition.

Otherwise, it is the dead of the winter and not too much going on. I keep daily busy everyday, but lately is seem like it is focused on mom. We have been running short on daytime caregivers. That makes a long day for me. About 4:00 in the afternoon, her sun downer kicks in and she wants to go home. Today, she was forceful about it. So, I load her up in the truck and we go for a drive that includes the farmstead that she grew up on. As we have driven by, she always remembers her childhood and the different area of the farmstead. But, today, was different, since she actually want to go into the house. I wonder how much longer I can continue to take her by the homestead.

By taking care of mom, each day seems to be the same, with mom having the same issues. I feel like I am ready for a break. Since I have been sick, it is a good thing that I have not scheduled something for this time of the year. On March 14, I am scheduled to have new hearing aids fitted for my ears at the Mayo Clinic. (Believe it or not, but I can save $1,100 by traveling to the Rochester, so I will.). The I will travel to the Duluth area and snowshoe. Since I have been up there at that time of the year before, the temperature is good and the sight are good. The water has been flowing through the iced waterfalls making a beautiful sight.

Since this has been fun, I will sign off for now, but, hopefully, I will do more writing in the future. I do have a few essays to share, so will see if I can send them out in the next few days.
