At 11:00 today, I traveled too Milwaukee to attend the Iowa Caucus portion of the the American Legion Convention, but it was really boring. It was all committee reports. And, if the average age of the presenters is just older than I am, given that most of them are from the Vietnam War, they are doing their best at their age. Also, they do not have the experience that I have of making a direct and to the points presentation. Although there are a few younger members coming on board, there will be a vacancy of members in the future to give these meetings the enthusiasm that they need.
It is a great privilege to be selected to the National Convention, but there is too much dead time for me. Yesterday, since I had my I pad with me, I started writing the Journal Entry and an essay. Next year, it will be in North Carolina and I will have to think hard if I am going to attend it then, but it is expensive to attend. If I was staying in Milwaukee, it would be easy to accumulate $1,000 of expenses. And, then the cost of an airline ticket can be added to that. Sometimes the prestige is not worth the trouble of the convention.
Yesterday, I purchased a $37.00 ticket Octoberfest at 5:00 last this afternoon, but there was one little problem: a major rain storm went through at 5:00 until 7:00. Since there stated packing there outside equipment at 7:45, I decided to return to mom’s house at 7:00. It was kind of hard driving into the sun with the wet road glaring back at me, but I made it back fine.
As for tomorrow, it seems like it is family day with many of the member going to the baseball game for only $15.00 each, so I will stay here all day. Also, since it looks like there will only be committee reports and speakers Tuesday and Wednesday, I might only go back on Thursday when the new national commander is selected. And, since one of my class mates from the Legion Collage is running for commander, I would like to help get him elected. One thing for sure, the more that you are around the American Legion, the more friends that you make. It does give a person a way to fill up all of the down time. Since I did take to members from Wisconsin, I was asked if I was going to attend the next Wisconsin Convention, so it looks like they are looking to be come active in this state.
And, tomorrow is an other.
