Journal Entry

It was a nice day here in Rochester, Minnesota with sunny skies, temperature below 80 degrees, no wind, and no mosquitos. To prove it, I walked 8.40 miles, since it is not much fun to be cooped up in buildings. And, I do not understand, this is the land of 10,000 lakes and a million mosquitos, but I have noticed that there are not many mosquitos in Wisconsin.

I got about the best bill of health the anyone could get from the Mayo Clinic. Although my sugar number is a little, and has been a little high, all the other numbers from the blood and urine tests were fine. With my blood pressure coming down to acceptable numbers, the doctor left me on high blood pressure numbers for now. I have lost weight and that is a good thing, but now to maintain the weight. My lipids are fine.

Regarding my bilateral thigh pain (meralgia prosthetics), it looks like I am going to be stuck with it for some time. It was probably caused by the extra work that I did moving to Wisconsin and the weight that I lost. Unfortunately, only time will let it be healed. To try to eliminate the pain, it seems like I need to ware shorts and pants with elastic waist bands in the house, since there is a linguini ligament in the front of the waist that put pressure on the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve. When wearing a belt, I need to keep it loss.

The biggest concern is being mom’s caregiver. As has been stated over and over again in the information about dementia caregivers, it is so important to get away from time to time. Currently, we are having issues getting caregivers there everyday and this makes for me to get away. I also need good and supportive help from others. As can be seen by others, there are family members that are very supportive, but there are family members that never show up. It seems to happen in every family, but what ever help is given is appreciated, and it is hard to see a love one in the dementia state, especially when they are so strong willed. Regarding the 1.5 hours that I was with the doctor, most of it was on my mom’s dementia and maintaining good mental health for me.

For those of you that are receiving the vaccine for the coronavirus, there is an updated vaccine coming out in October and no matter when you have received you last booster, it is recommended to get this update version as soon as it comes out. Since it is about the same time as when we normally get our flu short, it seems like we should get both at the same time.

So, since I got a good bill of health, I have no more appointments. But, since my doctor wants me to get a pneumonia shot, I will try to get one tomorrow morning. Then I will drive back to Whitewater.
